Dragon Quest III: (ド ラ ゴ ン ク エ ス ト III そ し て 伝 説 へ ... Doragon Kuesuto Suri - Soshite Densetsu and ...?), Known as Dragon Warrior III in the United States, is a role-playing game developed by Chunsoft and published in 1988 by Enix for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

It is the third episode of the historic Dragon Quest series, there are five versions: the original NES in 1988, the remake for Super Nintendo in 1996 and the Game Boy Color in 2000. In 2009 and 2011 outputs the mobile versions and Wii, respectively. It is the final chapter of Loto trilogy, and the first in chronological order, in fact, the story is a prequel to the first of the series.

Compared to the previous chapter, it presents an open world largest and introduces several innovations, such as a persistent world, where alternating day and night in a continuous cycle. He made his debut here, moreover, an innovative class change system, which will affect the future RPG gameplay, especially the Final Fantasy series (such as changing the character class in Final Fantasy III,released in 1990) and that years later will also be included in American RPGs like Wizardry VI and VII.
