Tetsuya Nomura (野村 哲也, Nomura Tetsuya?) (born October 8, 1970) is a Japanese video game director and character designer working for Square Enix. Since his major debut with 1997's Final Fantasy VII, he has been regarded as of "Square Enix's most valuable assets".
Biography[]
Games[]
Tetsuya Nomura began his career at a vocational school, designing arts for magazine advertisements. He joined Square Enix in early 1990 as a debugger for Final Fantasy IV, and then work as a monster designer for Final Fantasy V and Graphic director for Final Fantasy VI.
Nomura started to gain recognition at 1995, when he worked as character Designer for Final Fantasy VII, replacing the series' original character designer Yoshitaka Amano (because Square Enix felt that Amano's design was 'too complicated' to be rendered in CGI). Final Fantasy VII was a huge success and became one of the best-selling video games. Later in 1998, Nomura worked on both Parasite Eve and Brave Fencer Musashi, and continuing his success as a character designer in Final Fantasy VIII, Ehrgeiz, The Bouncer, and several other games. He is currently working on the project of Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy XIII.
Movie[]
Nomura made his debut as a director for the CGI animater movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children that is released on 2005 in Japan, and on 2006 in North America. The film is a sequel of Final Fantasy VII. Not only writing the lyrics that appear on the soundtrack, Nomura was also re-designing the characters as well.
